🌿 Crete — The Wild Heart of Greece
Every summer I return to Greece — it’s my home, my muse, my heart. I’ve hosted many retreats across the islands, from the picture-perfect Cyclades to the quiet coastal gems where time moves slower. But this year, I set foot on Crete for the very first time.
And oh my… Crete is not like anything else in Greece.
A Different Kind of Beauty
The Cycladic islands are stunning — all whitewashed houses, blue domes, and postcard-ready alleys. But Crete? Crete is raw. It’s real. It’s nature in full expression.
The land itself feels alive — towering mountains that slice through the horizon, deep gorges carved by time, and beaches so wild they make you whisper “wow” out loud. This island carries a heartbeat that’s ancient and untamed. It’s not trying to impress you — it simply is.
You don’t just see Crete; you feel her in your bones.
The Spirit of the People
And then there are the people — my favorite part.
The Cretans are beautiful, strong, and full of heart. They greet you like family and feed you until you can’t eat another bite. They’ll pour you homemade raki (their local spirit), make a toast to life, and share stories that feel like folklore.
The men of Crete wear black — not as a fashion statement, but as a deep tradition of honoring their ancestors. It’s their way of remembering generations past, their struggles, and their pride. It adds a quiet power to them… and, well, let’s be honest — it looks very good too.
They’re kind and warm, but you also get the sense that if you ever disrespect their family or land… they might pull out a gun. Just kidding (sort of). They really do shoot in the air at weddings and celebrations — because when Cretans celebrate, they do it with their whole hearts and a little wild fire. ![]()
A Retreat I’ll Never Forget
This retreat was pure magic. The group, the land, the laughter, the sound baths under the Cretan stars — everything unfolded in the most effortless way. There was deep healing, tears, belly laughs, and a beautiful flow between yoga, sound, and community.
Crete changed something in me. It reminded me that beauty doesn’t have to be polished — it can be wild, rugged, and perfectly imperfect.
I’ll carry this island in my heart forever. And yes — I’m already planning the next one. Because once you’ve danced barefoot under the Cretan moon, there’s no going back. ![]()
