The Light Within: Embracing the Colors of Life
We are all born with a radiant, pure light within us—a light that is untouched by the world.
This light is often depicted in spiritual imagery as a white halo or glow around divine beings. It represents pure awareness, infinite potential, and untainted divinity. But this light is not reserved for gods or saints; it is within each of us, a gift we carry into the world.
As we journey through life, our experiences begin to shape and transform this light. It doesn’t disappear; rather, it evolves, gathering colors that reflect the lives we’ve lived. The joys we experience—moments of love, kindness, and connection—add bright, vibrant hues. A moment of laughter might infuse a cheerful yellow, while a compassionate act may bring a soft pink. These colors represent the beauty and positivity we create and encounter.
But life is not always bright. Challenges, hardships, and losses add deeper, darker shades to our light. A deep blue might represent sadness, a charcoal gray, struggle. Yet these colors, too, have their own beauty. They bring depth, complexity, and wisdom. Just as an artist uses contrast to create a masterpiece, these moments enrich our being, teaching us resilience and compassion.
Together, these colors—light and dark—create a unique palette for each of us. No two people’s light is the same, just as no two lives are the same. And isn’t that what makes the world so beautiful? A kaleidoscope of human experiences, where every individual contributes their own unique hue.
This idea connects deeply with a phrase we often hear in yoga: “The light in me sees and honors the light in you.”
When we say this, we’re not just acknowledging the pure, original light within someone. We are also honoring the entire spectrum of their life—their triumphs, struggles, and everything in between. It’s a recognition that their light, like ours, has been shaped by their journey, and that all of it is worthy of love and respect.
So, how can we honor this light, both in ourselves and in others?
- Celebrate your colors. Reflect on the experiences that have shaped you. Embrace the bright, joyful moments, and find gratitude for the lessons learned in the harder times.
- See the beauty in others. When you meet someone, look beyond the surface. See the colors of their experiences, and honor the light they carry.
- Shine authentically. Share your unique light with the world, knowing that your colors add something beautiful to the collective tapestry of humanity.
Our lives are works of art, painted with every experience, emotion, and connection we encounter. Together, we create a vibrant masterpiece that is the world itself.
The light in me sees and deeply honors the light in you.
Namaste.
